The adjacentof Portmarnock, Malahide and Howth are within a short distance and offer a welcome change from the bustle of the City.”

“I booked this hotel last minute based on its price for one night B and B. It was excellent value for money. As I expected, my room was at the back and was one which had not been updated; but the bathroom was done up and was lovely. I actually really liked the room despite its dated and worn interior because it was spotless and actually had everything I needed. I have stayed in expensive trendy "boutique" hotels where the lighting was totally inadequate etc but this room had all essentials. Now, the one thing that surprised me was the bed. It had definitely seen better days- a thin mattress and average comfort. Breakfast was nice and all staff were lovely. It was good weather when I was there and the beach is just across the road. Perfect. What a pity we do not have more of this type of accommodation in Dublin.”

“Although the dinner menu was quite extensive, when we arrived for dinner at 7pm on a Sunday, we were told 5 of the top choices were no longer available. This left a very limited selection to choose from. I had to choose fish as a Sunday dinner and my wife a chicken salad. In fairness they were quite decent. I ordered drinks on a number of occasions but twice it was forgotten about and I had to return to the bar. Otherwise the hotel itself was very clean and comfortable, if a little dated. Staff were very friendly. I would return as the value for money was very good.”

Only problem was in welcome book had breakfast in Mad Fish restaurant, after a wait to see staff in restaurant I went to main reception to be told breakfast be served in bar area as this has been changed for years, the man on reception did apologise. But definitely need to update this in the welcome pack. Also would be nice to be offered a coffee pot at breakfast as had to keep asking for refill. Staff were quite busy.”

Breakfast was basic and a bit uninspired (no museli option, oranges only fruit offered, no sodabread, bacon oversold as 'thick', tomatoes undercooked, no flavouring in the mushrooms, scrambled egg grainy and lacking any real taste). A bit of imagination in the kitchen could bring the breakfast up a notch fairly cheaply. Nice to have the pastry and yogurt option.”

“We had nice comfortable room 201, with double and single beds, also sea view! Heating did not work the first night very well but the staff tried to help. Next days were fine. Breakfast was very good and well served and not expensive - 13.50€ for non residents. The hotel bar is comfortable for drink before bedtime. The best thing about this hotel - definitely the staff - pleasant, interactive and customer focused!”

Hotel old needs little TLC otherwise its perfect for views especially. “Had a nice stay! Fantastic location right by the amazing beach in Portmarnock, but the hotel needs a major revamp but that’s reflected in the price! Had mentioned when booking that a sea view would be nice so it was lovely to get it????The toilet was a bit too close to the radiator, luckily it wasn’t on, it could have been nasty???? There was a carvery until 6.50 on Sunday, the restaurant was closed due to staffing issues, had stayed last year and it had been quite good so that was disappointing! Nevertheless had a lovely breakfast freshly cooked, so well done to the chef and served by two very pleasant and professional young waitresses! A good base and will probably return!”

“We were informed on arrival that the hotel had no chef for the duration of our stay . We had to dine out each night which was inconvenient and expensive . The room was small and cramped due partly to heavy , dark , ancient and tired- looking furniture . The en suite bathroom was also cramped , so much so that the toilet was placed so close to the radiator that using it would be unpleasant , if not dangerous in winter when the radiator was on . Coffee and tea provided but paper cups !! Really ! Staff were pleasant and helpful .”

“This was our second time staying with White Sands. Fantastic location. Staff friendly & welcoming. Only one issue was with breakfast on the second morning. One breakfast to table…then ten mins before second plate delivered and another ten before third delivered. Fourth breakfast was even longer and other three were finished despite two plates returned to kitchen as bacon was not cooked. In the third morning wrong breakfast arrived at table. Asked staff member for milk but it never arrived. Noticed other guests having similar issues and like ourselves retrieved requested items from other tables. Despite all these minor issues, staff were all courteous & pleasant. So we will be back.”

Having to ask for items that should have been provided ie. Side plates, tea, no hot food order taken had to ask to order. However once highlighted to the waiting staff attention was paid to the table and our needs. Despite this, would return again due to pleasant hotel, lovely views and convenient location to sea and surrounding areas.”

Guests should be advised about the bag being left on your door in the morning with clean towels, toilet rolls etc. hadn’t experienced that before and thought the housekeeping staff were setting themselves up for when you went out, you need to take in the bag! Breakfast and evening meal, good! Friendly staff in bar and restaurant, some reception staff could do with a little more Umph!!! Fantastic location! Great value! Some people look for too many faults, but we would definitely come back!”

“Have stayed here a few times as love that the hotel is across from a lovely beach. The staff are friendly and I was given a room with a sea view as requested. The room was small and this was probably due to the furniture been too big for the room. I could not walk past the end of the bed to get to the window with having to turn sideways to get by. Breakfast was not great was waiting 35 min for our breakfast and it was not overly hit when we got it. I asked for toasted brown bread 3 times and never got it. I think they should block that you can hear into the kitchen as raided voices could be heard from the staff. It's a nice hotel if you want to be close to the sea.”

“we found the hotel to be a very nice hotel but have one gripe. we booked a weekend stay in a double room to celebrate my 40th a have time away from the kids one of which still sleeps in our bed but when we checked in we did get a double room but 2 single beds pushed together with 2 single mattresses not attached so they kept seperating if we tried to cuddle even. not what we were expecting and genuinely the only problem we had. the staff were very pleasant and professional and the hotel itself was very clean. all in all a nice weekend apart from the bed situation”

“The hotel room was very modern, clean and tidy. I didn't like the fact that the meal which I thought was going to be in the hotel restaurant was in fact, similar to pub grub in their bar. Due to the lack of staff, it was approximately 30 minutes before we received the menus after being seated. The meal itself was average. Although the bar was by no means busy, approximately 20-30 patrons, it still took 5 minutes to be served by staff who couldn't care less. The fire alarm sounded twice during the night without reason or explanation. The breakfast the following morning was also average with a poor selection of cold meats and cheeses for a continental breakfast. Again, lack of staff. Two latex gloves covered two smoke detectors in the restaurant which sums up this hotel, nobody cares! I would never set foot in this hotel again after our experience here. What was supposed to be a romantic, relaxing break, especially for my wife, ended up being a nightmare. As hotel breaks go, it wasn't expensive but thats not the point, it still will take me sometime to pay it off my credit card. I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, thank you.”

“This was not my first time to stay in a hotel booked through lidl breaks and I do find them great value for money, unfortunately I didnâ€™t feel the white sands hotel lived up to other hotels I have stayed in .When it came to ordering our meal for dinner (which was bar food) & again for breakfast, the service was extremely slow ( although the staff serving me seemed to be rushed off their feet!!). The dinner was mediocre and we had an extra charge for ordering the steak & Salmon for our main course which I donâ€™t think was highlighted at the booking stage. The staff were nice , the room was just ok but the fire alarm sounding at 2am and again at 7am added to an already disappointing stay.”

It was clean comfortable and the reception staff were very friendly. breakfast was just o k. not great choice expecially the fresh fruit or lack of ;; bedrooms were very nice and very clean . Im sure this must be really beautiful in the summer with the beach just across the road with really nice walks.”

“The hotel is nothing like it looks in the pictures, although the staff were nice everything else failed to meet expectations. The room was average for a hotel of its rating but that could be forgiven. Dinner was in a bar beside a pool table with poor service. On asking the waitress for a glass of wine with dinner she asked me to go order at the bar. When the food arrived it was presented well but on further inspection it was raw red in the middle. We had the option of ordering another meal which too turned out to be under cooked. The rooms are not soundproof and after the nightclub was finished down stairs the party proceeded into the hallway until 6am. I must say the breakfast was nice with friendly service but a little to late to enjoy the experience.”
