Information

Built in the early part of the 18th Century as a private dwelling and a hotel since 1895 the Old Ground Hotel has a long tradition and connection to the people of County Clare. Indeed the Old Ground has played its part in the Republics tumultuous beginnings and the now Town Hall once incorporated a jail.

Area Description A short drive from Ennis The Cliffs of Moher stand majestically over the Atlantic Ocean, looking out to the Aran Islands and the hills of Connemara across Galway Bay. The Bridges of Ross sea-arches and stacks and the gentler cliffs towards Loop Head in West Clare are also well worth a visit. The seascapes, seen from either land or sea, are truly beautiful.

  • “Very enjoyable stay, lovely and efficient staff, from reception to dining room and bar staff, we had an excellent meal in the bar in the evening, there was a gentleman in the bar that was quite drunk and the manager addressed the situation very respectfully, ( and impressively). The breakfast was lovely ( even the toast that was brought to the table was warm ). I have stayed at the Old Ground Hotel a few times and I am never disappointed, I will definitely return and as I have spoken so highly of my stay, my sister plans to book in for a few nights after Christmas. All in all a really lovely visit, comfortable, lovely sofas with an open fire, pleasant and efficient staff, very comfortable bed, great food, what more could you want”
